One of the biggest reasons I stay in Utah is you can get away and go camping almost any time of the year, and it lends itself to some of the most beautiful landscape.

I have spent days down in
Moab (four hours from Salt Lake) in December, although it does drop below freezing at night. If that isn't warm enough for ya about five hours away from Salt Lake is Saint George, Utah with nearby
Zion National Park, the winter is the off season there so you only have to fight half a million other visitors instead of a million and a half. When the temps run up to the 100s in the city, it's time to hit the
Uintah mountains* (about two hours from Salt Lake) for the weekend.
Either way, I like the outdoors and gives me a chance to get away at a low cost. We went to Goblin Valley (about three hours from Salt Lake) with some really good friends of our June of last year and had a really good time. Anytime I am out like that it's fun to take advantage of the minimal amount of light pollution at night and get some photos. These two night shots were taken on that trip.
I thought I would include a couple of dusk shots to show the land formations that give Goblin Valley its name. No, that's not a goblin laying down on the rocks, it's me.

That second shot is way cool - the way the campfires light create two pools of light in the darkness. As for the dusk ones - man, I've got to get down to Goblin land sometime next summer!
Wow love the photos of such a cool place....I love camping too, but I really don't like camping in cold weather.....those rocks look very interesting and quite fun to scramble around on....! But comfy?
Nice pic of you lying on the rock!
Max - It's a small park so you won't have to plan a long trip, but well worth it.
Karen - They are a blast, we like to go later in the day and play hide and seek in that area, lots of places to hide. And yeah, that was actually surprisingly comfy.
The self portrait rocks. They all do. You tell such great stories about the unique landscape around you. I think people would be a lot happier in life if they followed your lead and got out into the big world more often.
